You will be joining us at an exciting time in our journey, helping us and the sector to support those who are forced to seek safety. With over 33 years’ experience, we are trusted by the communities we serve and are seen as the lead organisation in Wales for asylum seekers and refugees.
Job Title: Community Engagement Officer
Report to: Head of Communications, Engagement, and Policy
Salary: £22,500 – £24,000 + 5% pension
Duration: Contract to 12 June 2026
Hours: 35 hrs a week. Normal office hours are between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with some flexibility. We are open to offering a job share for suitable candidates.
Location: Hybrid, with the role based at our Cardiff office (minimum one day per week). Occasional travel across Wales and evening or weekend work will be required and agreed on in advance.
Purpose of the post
As part of our Communications, Engagement, and Policy team, you will contribute to the wider advocacy work of our organisation. Your role will be to recruit, train, lead, and support people with lived asylum seeker or refugee experience, helping them to build their communication skills and to tell their own stories to educate and affect positive change. Lived experience matters for many reasons, not least of which is that someone who has been through an experience understands the nuances and complexities of dealing with it.
You will lead our outreach work with community groups and anchor institutions to inform and educate the public and private sectors on migration narratives. You will also help organise events with a range of partners and stakeholders.
This is an exciting time to join the Welsh Refugee Council as we are improving our understanding of issues affecting refugees and how we can advocate to decision-makers and the wider public. You can play a part in making changes that will directly improve their lives.
