Ilham Farhan: Recruitment and Volunteering Co-ordinator
مرحبا، أنا إلهام!
Hello I’m Ilham and I’m the Volunteer coordinator for the Welsh refugee council.
My journey into the WRC started in August 2021, when I decided to become a volunteer. Helping others has always been close to my heart, and WRC felt like the perfect place to channel my passion and skills. A year later, in March 2022, I officially joined the team as a Triage Officer, welcoming clients to our Cardiff office and guiding them to the support they needed.
This work is deeply personal to me. My own experience as an asylum seeker from Syria, alongside my husband and three children, inspires the work I do every day. I understand firsthand the challenges and the courage it takes to seek safety, and I’m driven to help others on their journey.
In August 2024, I stepped into my current role as Volunteer Coordinator. Supporting our incredible volunteers and equipping them to make a difference at the WRC is a role I take great pride in.
When I’m not at work, you’ll often find me enjoying a walk, sipping a good coffee, or staying as far away from the kitchen as possible! I’m passionate about staying organised, working with numbers, and doing things that bring people together. I speak Arabic and Kurdish fluently and believe with my whole heart in the power of community and teamwork to make others’ lives better.
