Sabiha Azad: Coalition Coordinator
Hi, I’m Sabiha! I’m the Coalition Coordinator for Sanctuary Coalition Cymru.
As the Coalition Coordinator, my job is all about bringing people together. I work with an incredible mix of organisations and individuals across Wales, all dedicated to supporting asylum seekers and refugees. Together, we aim to make Wales a true Nation of Sanctuary—a place where people seeking safety are not only welcomed but given the chance to thrive.
I’m so passionate about this vision because I believe in the power of community and compassion. Refugees and displaced people deserve to feel valued and supported, and it’s amazing to be part of a team working to make that happen.
Before joining the Welsh Refugee Council, I worked with the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales. That experience taught me a lot about creating a fairer, more sustainable future and how collaboration is key to achieving real change.
Outside of work, I love traveling and exploring new cultures. It’s fascinating to meet people, experience different ways of life, and gain fresh perspectives—it’s also a big reason I’m so passionate about what I do. I also enjoy a good cup of coffee (or two!), catching up with friends, and spending time with my family.
This work matters to me because it’s about more than just policies or projects—it’s about building a Wales where everyone, no matter their background or journey, feels they belong and have the chance to contribute to their community. I’m proud to be part of that mission.
