Finn McKendrick: Education and Employability Manager
Hi, I’m Finn, Education and Employability Manager at the Welsh Refugee Council.
It’s a real privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Over the past two years, I’ve managed a Move On and Housing service in North Somerset. Now, I’m excited to focus on the next stage of integration for the refugee community, supporting people to access education, training, and employment opportunities that help them build new futures.
Before joining the Welsh Refugee Council, I completed my project management training in Bristol. During that time, I led teams of volunteers across various initial accommodation sites for asylum seekers. Together, we delivered clothing, toiletries, and essential supplies. We also organised wellbeing activities, advice pop-ups, ESOL classes, and welcome hubs to help people feel supported and connected from day one.
I’ve been fortunate to live, work, study, and volunteer in Colombia, Spain, France, and across the UK. Each place has shaped my outlook and deepened my belief in the importance of community and belonging. Still, Northumberland in the North East of England will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s where I grew up, surrounded by close family and the landscapes I love—its coastline, reservoirs, forests, market towns, and the vibrant City of Newcastle. I’d recommend a visit to anyone!
Through all these experiences, I’m constantly reminded of how lucky I’ve been to have a safe and secure place to call home. The right to safety is fundamental, and it’s something we must continue to protect and uphold for everyone seeking sanctuary—now and in the future.
