Theodore Manzambi: Swansea Lead Caseworker
Hello, I’m Theodore, and I’m the Swansea Lead Caseworker at the Welsh Refugee Council.
My journey to this role is deeply personal. I’ve experienced the challenges of seeking sanctuary in the UK, and those experiences have shaped who I am and how I approach my work. Before this, I spent two decades in the aviation industry back home, where I developed resilience, adaptability, and keen observation—qualities that now help me support others as they rebuild their lives.
I’m a calm, empathetic, and driven individual who thrives on listening and observing, always ready to offer support and guidance. I speak four languages—English, French, Lingala, and Kikongo—which allows me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and build meaningful relationships. I’m passionate about making a real difference in the lives of those I work with at the Welsh Refugee Council. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, playing the drums, and getting lost in a good series—these moments help recharge me.
At the heart of my role, I work hard to create a welcoming space where everyone feels safe and supported. I look to empower newly granted refugees, offering tailored guidance as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives in the UK. Housing is a significant focus, and I assist individuals in securing stable accommodation while advocating for better policies within the system. Sharing my knowledge is a passion, and I enjoy helping volunteers grow in confidence and make a meaningful impact.
Throughout my time with the Welsh Refugee Council, I’ve taken on various roles, including Advice and Support Caseworker, Chair of Wales Bright Futures under Ella Forums, and Volunteer Caseworker. I’ve worked on impactful initiatives like the Time to Work project, funded by WCVA at Thecae, and helped establish the Congolese Development Project (CDP), which supports French, Lingala, Swahili, and Kikongo-speaking communities.
