Stan Senior: Housing Policy and Research Lead

Welsh Refugee Council staff member smiling with thumbs up sign.Hi – I’m Stan. I am the Housing Policy and Research Lead!

My job is to help develop policy on behalf of the Welsh Refugee Council and to support outputs of the OAK Housing Project. By working with refugees, our wonderful caseworkers and other stakeholders, I lead on identifying common barriers to accessing stable housing for refugees in Wales and look to create innovative policy ideas to help bring these barriers down. It’s a privilege to do my bit to support the charity’s wider goal of making Wales a welcoming and supportive country for sanctuary seekers.

Having gained an undergraduate degree in History and a postgraduate degree in Welsh Government and Politics at Cardiff University, I worked as a Policy Analyst with DeHavilland. There, I led on providing a political monitoring service for a host of housing and homelessness charities and organisations in Wales, gaining valuable understanding of the challenges facing the sector but also making some very valuable connections. Moving to this role was a very welcome step for me to continue and develop those connections, while making a difference to the lives of those seeking sanctuary in Wales.

Born and bred in north Wales and originally from the walled town of Conwy in north Wales, I am a fluent speaker of Welsh and a keen history enthusiast. Since moving to Cardiff I have been very pleased to call this wonderful city home.

When I am not at work, chances are you can find me out on the cricket field, attending any number of gigs or spending my time at the gym. I have also been known to run a half marathon or two in the past, as well as continuously attempting to learn Spanish.
