Jamie Braddock
Hello I’m Jamie!
Safety is a fundamental human right, and if you’re able to offer it, you should. I was on the receiving end of this support as a child, and now that I’m in the privileged position to offer it, I believe I have a duty to do so.
My professional background is rooted in recruitment and retention strategy, with a focus on specialist, critical, and senior-level positions across government, non-profit, and private sector organisations. I’ve been fortunate to build a career that’s allowed me to work across the UK, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, contributing to organisations that are striving to make the world a better, fairer place.
Some highlights of my work include designing a programme that helped schools across South Wales access EU funding for literacy and numeracy support, leading recruitment for the UK’s largest environmental infrastructure project, creating bespoke hiring campaigns for Australian non-profits seeking niche skills, and running executive search for some of the UK’s most critical energy infrastructure projects. These experiences have given me a strong foundation in strategic workforce development, systems thinking, and people-focused leadership.
Towards the end of my time living overseas, a sense of hiraeth grew day by day, as did a desire to reconnect with the country and community that, despite the circumstances I was born in to, helped develop me into the person I am today. It was that feeling that drove my partner and I to make the decision to move back to Cardiff in 2022 with a renewed sense of duty to support our community, not only on a person-to-person level, but to use our lived and professional experience to drive systematic change.
I believe in a Wales that is a place of sanctuary not only for those fortunate enough to be born here, but for anyone that needs it. The Welsh Refugee Council enables this to be done in a way that benefits both those in need and the communities they live in, which ultimately benefits the whole country. I am incredibly proud to play a small part in supporting this mission.
Alongside my role as a Trustee at the Welsh Refugee Council I also serve as a Trustee for Supported Fostering Services, the oldest non-profit fostering services provider in Wales, and I am the Director of Baker Street Recruitment, a company I founded to help organisations tackling the climate crisis to attract and retain the people they need to succeed.
When I’m not working, you’ll most likely find my partner and me in our campervan with our two rescue dogs, chasing coastline, mountain air, and moments of calm, as immersed in nature as we can get.
