Achuil Monytoch: Single Advice Fund Project Manager

Hello, my name is Achuil, and I’m the Project Manager for the Single Advice Fund (SAF) Project.

In my role, I oversee support services across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan in key areas such as debt, discrimination, education, employment, housing, and welfare benefits. I lead a dedicated team of caseworkers who work tirelessly under the SAF and Widening of Dispersal (WoD) projects to provide accurate, confidential, and expert advice to sanctuary seekers and refugees.

I have always been deeply passionate about supporting disadvantaged groups, particularly those whose lives have been uprooted and who are determined to rebuild their futures. Having personally experienced the horrors of war in my home country, including displacement, destitution, and the loss of loved ones, I understand first-hand what it means to flee conflict and persecution in search of safety and hope.

My lived and professional experiences, combined with the welcoming environment at WRC, inspired me to begin volunteering in Swansea in March 2022 to support sanctuary seekers and refugees. Before becoming Project Manager for SAF, I worked as a caseworker in Newport. The rewarding nature of this work and witnessing the positive difference it makes in people’s lives, continues to fuel my passion for community service. I also serve as a trustee for two charities: Swansea Asylum Seekers Support (SASS) and Unity in Diversity (UiD).

By training, I am a veterinarian and have worked with pastoralists, local authorities, and the private sector to improve animal health and community livelihoods in both Sudan and South Sudan. Prior to coming to the UK, I spent around 14 years with international organisations managing projects that supported internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and other vulnerable communities.

My journey – from surviving civil wars in Sudan and South Sudan to supporting others through their most difficult times, has shaped my deep belief in the power of compassion, resilience, and community. Every person seeking sanctuary carries a story of courage and survival, and I am honoured to walk alongside them as they rebuild their futures. Through my work, I strive not only to provide guidance but to help restore hope, dignity, and the possibility of a brighter tomorrow.

In my spare time, I enjoy jogging and cycling, especially during the summer months. I also do a lot of reading about the root causes of conflict around the world.

Ultimately, my goal is to be a bridge, connecting people to the support they need and the hope they deserve. My dream is of a world where diversity is celebrated, and every person, regardless of background, has the opportunity to live and thrive in peace.
