Nick Walters: Wales Sanctuary Service Manager

Hi I’m Nick! What a wonderful organisation I work for. I do my best to treat the clients with the dignity and level of support, I hope I would receive if I were dispersed to a faraway land and lost and confused to a new level of bureaucracy.

I now find myself as part of the management team at the Welsh Refugee Council, having worked as a caseworker, supporting our clients across our different projects. In 2019, when I retired from South Wales Police, after 30 years’ service, I attended Swansea University to study my degree in International Relations. My next career was unknow to me at this time, but I consider it good fate that I was successful in securing a Caseworker role within the Welsh Refugee Council, a role that I started in March 2023, and has allowed me to support clients in across Wales.

I am now part of the organisation’s management team as the WSS Programme and Partnership Manager and will continue to support our community with the assistance of the great staff here. It is possible that you will see me in any of our offices, but Swansea is my local one, and the city I started my Policing career way back in 1989.  Prior to this I grew up in Kent, London, and the Isle of Wight, and without doubt London is a special place for me, and I feel the need to visit at least once a year.

Outside of work, I spend time with my wife and two sons, three dogs, a motorcycle and our passports, my family just loves to travel, 24 countries visited, and plenty of more to come with a bit of luck. I love to try all the different cuisines and beverages that find their way to my ever-demanding tastebuds, such as Arabic Coffee, which I was introduced to by one of my colleagues.
