Fundraise your own way

Put on a bake sale, host a quiz night, organise a gig or think up something completely different! If you can bring people together, you can raise money for people seeking safety in Wales.

Last year, nearly 5,000 people came to us for expert advice, language classes and a safe place for their children to play. Here are some ideas and tips to help you get started.

Need some ideas?

Bake sale

A classic for a reason. Sell treats at work, school or your place of worship.

World food night

Ask each guest to bring a dish from a country they love and a donation. Celebrate the cultures that make Wales home.

Quiz or games night

Ask your local to host, sell tickets per team and find a prize for the winners.

Give something up

Get sponsored to give up chocolate, coffee or social media for a month.

Celebrate with us

Ask for donations instead of gifts for a birthday, wedding or anniversary.

At work

Run a theme or dress-down day, and ask if your employer will match what you raise.

Fancy a physical challenge? Take a look at our walk, run, swim and cycle pages.

How it works

1. Plan it

Pick something you’ll enjoy, choose a date that doesn’t clash with other big events, and get friends to help. If you need a venue, book early and check it’s accessible for everyone.

2. Set up your page

Create a JustGiving page, tell people why you’re doing it and set a target. JustGiving adds Gift Aid for eligible UK taxpayers, so every £1 can be worth £1.25.

3. Spread the word

Share your page on social media, by email and on local noticeboards. Be sure to post updates as you go and email fundraising@wrc.wales to tell us about it so we can cheer you on!

Have funds to pay in?

Money raised on JustGiving comes to us automatically. For cash or cheques, choose whichever is easiest:

Keep it safe and legal

  • Collecting money in a public place, like a street or shopping centre, usually needs permission from your local council or the venue.
  • Raffles that sell tickets in advance may need a licence. Selling tickets on the day of your event is simpler. The Gambling Commission has guidance.
  • Selling food? List the ingredients so people with allergies can choose safely, and follow the Food Standards Agency guidance for community events.
  • Have a first aid kit to hand at your event.

Not sure about something? Email fundraising@wrc.wales and we’ll help you plan it.
