Can I access support for sanctuary seekers in any part of Wales?
The journey toward widening dispersal in Wales began as part of a national effort to offer sanctuary seekers a fair chance to rebuild their lives. In response to a growing need, the UK Home Office expanded its dispersal strategy in Wales to ensure that all regions could share in supporting those in need of refuge.
This change aims to ease the pressure on certain regions, while also enriching communities across Wales with diverse cultures, experiences, and talents. Today, we’re proud to say that the Welsh Refugee Council works hand-in-hand with 22 local authorities to support this important mission.

How do we help asylum seekers?
We understand that each situation is unique, and we’re here to listen, provide advice, and help sanctuary seekers navigate the journey into rebuilding a life in Wales.
Working with our partner organisations, we provide vital support to help people overcome the hurdles and build a stable foundation for the future. Together, we:
- Support sanctuary seekers to access safe and secure housing
- Offer information about rights, entitlements, and next steps
- Provide emotional support and regular wellbeing checks during an uncertain time
- Promote access to education, health, and social and play opportunities for children and their families
