Paul Shackson: Communications Manager
Hi, I’m Paul, Communications Manager at the Welsh Refugee Council, father to two much more intelligent people than me, ardent Liverpool FC fan, lover of all things sport, and with a broad musical taste across all eras, although I’ve always struggled to listen to Jazz. My loss!
After realising I wasn’t going to be a professional footballer (because I’m rubbish), and could no longer even play (because of injuries to my back, hamstrings, ankles, knees…) the list goes on, I took up coaching my son’s local Cardiff team. I thoroughly enjoyed it, didn’t get into too many arguments with opposition Coaches, and am affectionately now known by many young people in Cardiff as ‘Gaffer.’
I have worked in communications for approximately 25 years, five of which were spent in London, the rest in Cardiff, and I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some amazing people, both colleagues and clients, on some fantastic projects and campaigns. You know who you are!
I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of the Welsh Refugee Council; it means a great deal to me. I want to make a difference in any way I can to the lives of people who have fled some dire situations yet still maintain that zest for life and are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. It’s a privilege to represent them and fight their corner…unless they support Manchester United FC obviously, that’s a struggle!
