UNHCR Representative comes to Newport

We were delighted to welcome Rosella Pagliuchi-Lor, the UN Refugee Agency’s Representative to the UK to Newport. This was her first visit to Wales since taking up her position in December 2018.

She met with the multiple projects based in our Newport Office including our Move On service for refugees, the Asylum Rights Programme and the Lighthouse Project delivered by Taff Housing to help newly granted refugees find accommodation in Newport. She had the opportunity to tour our offices and to hear the experiences of staff and volunteers working with asylum seekers and refugees and the multiple challenges they face.

We then arranged for her to have a roundtable discussion with asylum seekers and refugees living in Newport and with experience of life seeking sanctuary in the UK in partnership with British Red Cross, the Gap Centre and DPIA.
