Meet Our New Chief Executive
Meet Andrea Cleaver, the new Chief Executive of the Welsh Refugee Council.
A passionate supporter of the Third Sector, Andrea has 20 years’ experience supporting charities across Wales. Led by her values, of understanding, accessibility and excellence Andrea has volunteered alongside employment for most of her career.
A route into Welsh Government in the early 2000s saw Andrea work on programmes such as the Homelessness Grant programme, before joining the National Lottery Community Fund to support projects across health, environment, education, and poverty.
During this time, Andrea supported hundreds of charities with business planning, led on stakeholder engagement, and facilitated working groups to gather insights to develop future programmes. It was during these years that her leadership approach began to be established- creating a listening environment, and curiosity to create a more inclusive approach.
Andrea says “I’ve dedicated my life to supporting the Third Sector and I am passionate about supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Wales. My vision is for us to welcome asylum seekers and refugees and empower them to live fulfilling lives where they can be their best and their talents can shine.
Andrea has held several strategic roles at complex organisations including Head of Development for the Wales Millennium Centre, Trustee and Vice-Chair for The Wallich and Development Specialist for Safe Passage. Most recently Andrea has been mentoring not-for-profit organisations as Director of Fresh Thinking Hub helping to share her expertise with engagement, project development and fundraising.
