WINNER OF LEARNING AND WORK INSTITUTE’S COMMUNITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR 2016!
People who migrate to Wales bring with them an array of skills and abilities that have the potential to enrich our communities and economies alike. To enable these individuals to reach their full potential, access justice and integrate into Welsh society, a thorough grasp of the English language is essential. They must therefore have access to the necessary language classes to support and guide them in their learning.
At our Cardiff office, the Welsh Refugee Council provides, interactive teaching sessions to asylum seekers and refugees at beginners to advanced level. We provide pathways to employment and education for asylum seekers and refugees through one to one mentoring; the project also includes recruiting and training volunteers through our READ scheme in partnership with the Trinity Centre, ESOL classes from beginner to upper-intermediate level.
Asylum seekers and refugees are welcome to join the class at any stage.
ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) is a provision for learners who do not have English or Welsh as their mother tongue, and who have come to settle and live in the UK permanently.
